If you've seen the new Blue Beetle design, you probably know said hero is in need of more help than Batgirl. If you want to see what the internet has come up with, keep checking here.

[info]heykidzcomix (a great blog if you have a love-hate relationship with comics, especially DC - aw heck, just a great blog all around), pointed out the Batgirl drawing meme. I'm not an artist but I couldn't resist. Viva crayola colored pencils.

Juuni Kokookies Mk. II [Oct. 27th, 2005|10:40 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

I really wanted to make some seasonal sugar cookies to use all my Autumn/Halloween cookie cutters. While I was at it, I decided it was time to try those Juuni Kokookies again! I'm not quite to the stage of all separate isolated ones (though it wouldn't be hard to cut them apart to get that effect now) but I rather like this set. The text was really hard and not quite all correct/legible. As a bonus, Haro time!

popularity & polls & pics [Oct. 19th, 2005|01:37 am]
[Tags|, , ]

My second episode of Giant Robo was vetoed for being too late at night. It's 44 minutes long. I bet it wouldn't be too late at night for another episode or two of something else. Ah well, we'll see, hopefully people will elect to continue watching it :/

I was looking back on the shoe poll. I was surprised to see that 77% of those polled take off their shoes. I realize that it's already a biased poll base, but considering the amounts of times I've gotten sighs or eyerolling when I ask people to take off their shoes when they come or seen people wear shoes around their carpetted house, it's still surprising the percentage is so high. Then there are the people who walk right in with their shoes on and only remember a little later on the house rules.

Hrm, let's round out this post with a meme first seen by me in [info]gundamnook:

Go to my icon page and pick:
1. One icon that makes you automatically think of me.
2. One icon that you think I should use more often.
3. One icon that you don't get/needs more explanation/you have no idea why the hell I have it.
4. Comment using an icon of yours and tell me why you picked THAT one too.

I don't have as many icons as the other people I've seen having this meme but it looked like fun. I changed the wording slightly though. This reminds me that there are still some icons floating around in my head that I have to make too.

You Are A: Mouse!

mouseSome people are scared of mice while others find them cute and cuddly. As a mouse, you forage for food and manage to sneek into everything, but prefer to stay out of sight. The phrase "quiet as a mouse" isn't for nothing, however surprise one and expect a squeek! Your small size and quiet nature are partly what makes you a mouse.

Advent Children [Sep. 15th, 2005|04:23 pm]

[mood | silly]

Wow, I haven't seen LJ so single-minded since Harry Potter... in Internet time, that's like forever. Time to jump on the bandwagon!

Final Fantasy Advent Children was impressively servicy. I mean, I -like- Aeris and I thought there was too much of her. Mmm... spring of dead Aeris. :O~~~~~~ (Maybe I shouldn't say that. Aaron is so young he managed to be surprised by that part of the game. Oops.)

The only thing it was really missing to cover all bases was some sort of chocobo image, unless I missed it.

I'll admit though, despite the general failings of direction or plot, I got all 'awww' for everyone lending Cloud a hand. Plus, yay Turks. Yay Cid and Vincent. Really though, in the end I think that just tossing it all for max service was perhaps what people wanted anyway.

I wonder if any toys/models/figures of Cloud's Swiss Army Bike will have blade-selecting action.

Pacific Media Expo 2005 Photos [Sep. 6th, 2005|10:42 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

I have some pictures from Pacific Media Expo. Forgive me, I'm not very good with the camera and red eye haunts me. Most of these are hall cosplay, CosFest or the Twisted Tea Party. The CosFest ones were mostly taken by Diffy somewhat behind the stage so I didn't upload most of them as it's mostly people's backs. Is anyone interested in seeing those too?

Avoid Horrible Holiday Inn/InterContinental Hotels Group [Jul. 25th, 2005|12:45 pm]
[Tags|]

Needless to say, unless something gets fixed, I'm not staying at a hotel under the InterContinental Hotels Group ever again. Had there been hotels left in the city, we would have gone elsewhere.

If you have heard the long or the short of how they promote managers who rudely or sarcastically blow you off, leave rooms obscenely dirty between stays, and can't even give you a towel in less than 50 minutes and thusly want to be avoiding them too, here are their brands worldwide:

Holiday Inn
Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts
Staybridge Suites

Hotel Indigo
Candlewood Suites
Forum Hotels & Resorts
Parkroyal Hotels & Resorts
Centra Hotels & Resorts

They also have interest in BritVic soft drinks.

Associated directly with the San Diego Holiday Inn on the Bay are these chain restaurants:
Elephant and Castle
Ruth's Chris Steak House

I don't think anyone has ever thought of the Holiday Inn as a 'classy' chain in any way shape or form, but who would have known they could be so low?

Friends Only - 95% of the time [Dec. 22nd, 2004|04:42 am]
[Tags|]

Looking back, it appears that my posting style has evolved to be 95% Friends Only. I went back and locked some old posts where I thought about and decided that I didn't need everyone in the world to know and would in fact feel distrubed to find a certain handful of people reading them (though they're unlikely to stumble upon my journal.) So, if you're interested in reading my livejournal, please leave a comment and I'll look into it. I tend to post a couple times a week unless I'm putting up a multi-part event journal or project.

Gankutsu Ou bipolarism pt 3 [Oct. 21st, 2004|06:37 am]
[Tags|]
[mood | hopeful]

Okay, after much other stuff, I finally got around to watching Gankutsu Ou episode 3, which ducky was nice enough to give me the other night. Indeed it is much more promising than episode 2.

At first I was a little wary when the girls (Eugenie and Valentine) showed up early on with everyone, though I do like how they turned out. I always liked Eugenie being ahead of her time (though it was hard at first since she was a Danglars) and it's hard to see how they're doing that yet (unless you saw the preview clip) but she definitely has the personality. Valentine fits too, though being that she fits, she didn't quite fit in with the group of boys. The boys all fit pretty well, and they're not even screaming stereotypes of themselves despite not having time to develop them yet, similar to the book. Then they had quiche, and fortunately no rat creatures showed up. The Maximillien/Valentine new meet up thing was kind of silly but it could have been worse.

Anyway, the girls were lost soon enough to the meeting/introduction of Monte Cristo which Albert set up. The discussion before he gets there all too on time was pretty parallel to the book. I wonder if this series is just going to me squee-ing when things run nicely parallel to the book. Oh well, at this point I'm addicted to the OP anyway.

The Count makes AN ENTRANCE. He can apparently make it rain and make the power go out. Later on we find out he can't be recorded or photographed either. I can't tell whether this would kind of be nice and creepy if it wasn't Monte Cristo or if it would just be cliche... though sci-fi cliche. Maybe it will only be really lame when revenge eyes show up. I can't see them not bumping up the action from the book but maybe it will not go overboard and episode 2 was indeed to broaden the audience.

In the book, I hadn't realized how strange it looked to me to have Monte Cristo who is older and looks a little beyond his years hanging out with the young men of Paris.

Franz and Albert certainly need more clothes. Is it that hard to select a different fill pattern?

Beppo is still in the plot. I wonder if he's going to half replace Peppino/Vampa/the other half of Betruccio as some sort of tool of the Count's.

I cringed a little at Mercedes' flashback voice (though the scene with her picture was also pretty dead on) but luckily her current one is much more palatable. (Plus, pretty blue dress!) I didn't like her lack of reaction at the end of the episode but maybe they're savign it for next episode, which I'm definitely looking forward to. Based on the title I wonder if we'll get some flashbackage. Edmond's name has already been mentioned so at least the Count will have some backstory.

Gankutsu Ou... [Oct. 13th, 2004|09:32 pm]
[Tags|]
[mood | disappointed]

-_-; I hadn't gotten excited in a while. I had even talked myself into thinking 'deviations are okay,' 'this is something different' etc. However, episode two was lame in many ways, regardless of the original story. Albert has become a stock protagonist we all know. The Count's suave handling of things has been replaced with ... ugh. Maybe it's just the throwaway episode to try to attract a broader audience. Maybe I should have seen this "in the cards" in the first episode.

Moof.

Anyway... everlasting hope! (everlasting = at least til next week)

Sky [Oct. 12th, 2004|05:58 pm]
[Tags|]

When I reached the overpass today, where often I gaze down upon the traffic slowed in their rush to get home, I was halted by the great vastness of the sky. The altitude and accumulation of the clouds gave this sense of dwarfing space, as if the world was suddenly not constricted by anything. The declining sun perfected the view with wonderful shading and contrast, not just on the clouds but on the mountains. There was a clarity of deep green vegetation and red ground. There was a children's book of fantasy.

I stopped for a bit letting the light go and watching a small nekobus run atop the mountain. Knowing that I had to be home for dinner, I started walking but always looking upward. A perfect mallard, its bird breast and its bird beak formed precisely, took up a large portion of the sky. A smaller Eastern dragon was a glance away, snaking its way to meet the duck, smoke coming from its nostrils and open mouth. Further past appeared to be some sort of mole or badger, keeping low to its ground.

I continued walking and watching. Soon the wind had had its way and the dragon's head had become a small whale. The dragon's tail had formed into the underside of a dune buggy, probably mid jump, kicking up dust behind it. The badger had become a bear cub, running forward, free like the sky.

A right turn and I continued on my way, only vaguely watching where I was going. Another dragon, much bigger than the first, came out from behind a tree. Its mouth closed, it had but a snort of smoke coming from its nostril, as if laughing at my stupidity of being tied down by obligation, unable to have stayed on the overpass, watching the sky.

One last turn and a small platysaurus was craning its segmented neck, pointing in the direction of my home. A regal jaguar was roaring, displaying its tongue. I glanced a couple more times, by this time, more lost to the buildings, and finally went inside.
